Design for Good: Breakfast Club with The Weaving Mill + Chicago Dance Institute
A casual monthly event for designers interested in using their work for social good
- February 7
- 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM
- ACME Hotel Company
The Design for Good Breakfast Club series is a casual monthly get together over coffee to connect designers who are interested in using design for good, to meet one another, and highlight the needs of social initiatives. Their goal is to ensure social initiatives find designers who are interested in helping them to grow.
The Weaving Mill is the collaborative studio of Matti Sloman and Emily Winter. They make projects of their own, textile and otherwise, that respond to the practice of running a small industrial mill. They design and make fabric in collaboration with other artists and designers. Working with people of diverse textile experience, they aim to fill the space between the hand and industrially made and bring the mechanics of textile production into wider view. They also partner with Envision Unlimited and provide textile education workshops adults with developmental disabilities.
Matti Sloman is trained in painting and textile design. Matti (b. 1985) received her MFA in Textiles and a BFA in Painting from Rhode Island School of Design. Emily Winter is trained in history and textile design. Emily (b. 1987) received her MFA in Textiles from Rhode Island School of Design and a BA in History from University of Chicago.
